A health care professional takes a blood sample in just 5-10 minutes that determine whether or not antibodies against the virus were developed.

The immune system produces antibodies — proteins that are critical for fighting and clearing out a virus. If test results show that you have antibodies, it indicates that you were likely infected with a coronavirus at some point in the past. It may also mean that you have some immunity. The level of immunity and how long immunity lasts are not yet known. Ongoing studies will eventually reveal more data on this. Antibodies may not be detected until one to two weeks after becoming ill with COVID-19, so an antibody test should not be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection or to inform infection status.
